Program Targets Over 1,000 Hectares of Farmland, Reducing Emissions by 3.5+ Tonnes CO2e Per Hectare Annually

Tel Aviv, Israel, and Boulder, CO – Orbia Advance Corporation's Precision Agriculture business Netafim, the global leader in precision irrigation, has partnered with Virridy, a pioneer in environmental technology and water-focused carbon credit generation, to launch a new carbon credit program in Turkey.

The program will begin with more than 1,000 hectares of farmland in Turkey, focusing on alfalfa, corn, and sugar beet crops. The initiative has already demonstrated the capacity to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 3.5 tonnes of CO2 equivalent per hectare per year. Farmers adopting precision irrigation alongside digital farming solutions benefit from enhanced water efficiency and increased productivity.

"Carbon credit programs benefit farmers directly through improved water efficiency, reduced input costs, and an additional revenue stream," said Max Moldavsky, Director of Innovation at Orbia Precision Agriculture.

Building on Proven Results

The initiative builds on Netafim's earlier success with drip-irrigated rice carbon credits launched in 2022, which nearly eliminated methane emissions while conserving water and fertilizers. Previous pilot projects showed farmers achieved at least a 25% increase in yield, along with improved water efficiency and decreased fertilizer use.

"This collaboration allows us to bridge agriculture and carbon finance to make sustainable practices more accessible and financially viable for farmers," said Evan Thomas, CEO of Virridy.

Virridy's Role

Virridy will lead carbon credit generation efforts by leveraging its Digital Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (DMRV) capabilities to quantify water and climate benefits with a scalable and sustainable finance model for partners. Virridy's sensor platform delivers the objective, continuous data that carbon credit programs require.

Future Plans

The partnership intends to expand significantly within Turkey and explore scaling opportunities in additional countries during subsequent phases.
